Question for Guy Pearce who played 'Ed' Exley in LA Confidential.
George Clooney and Joe Carnahan are doing White Jazz, the follow-up to L.A. Confidential. Have they talked to you about reprising the role of Ed Exley? "It's been mentioned to me, yeah. I haven't read the script yet, so I'd kind of have to base it on that. I ultimately don't really feel hugely compelled to want to revisit any character that I've played before necessarily, but having said that, it would purely depend on how it was realized, I guess." (cinematical.com)

Explosion Rocks Agency to the Stars.
Shortly before 3:00 PM on Tuesday, a massive Boom! shook the new Century City headquarters of the ultra-elite Creative Artists Agency, leaving many pondering the fate of George Clooney, Brad Pitt and other superstar clients who often stop by the office. While the blast blew out ceiling tiles of the agency's private kitchen and sent adjacent mailroom clerks scurrying for cover, no one was seriously injured. In fact, it appears no megastars were on the premises at the time. The source: A gas leak ignition in the building's south-facing ground floor private kitchen. As you can see from our exclusive photo, the drop-ceiling tiles took the worst of it.Only minor injuries were reported -- "bumps and bruises" according to one Los Angeles firefighter. As I left the building, one mailroom clerk was being sent to the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf to fetch chamomile teas for the entire contingent of shell-shocked mailroom clerks, who were then given the rest of the day off. The scare comes only a week after its newly-installed phone system began to malfunction, leaving agents' assistants in hysterics as their apoplectic bosses could not be connected with cellular phones, thanks to the new 424 area code. And we're told some of the agents are seriously burned -- seriously. It appears the architect of the new glass building didn't account for the intense sunlight. (tmz.com)

GUY PEARCE GETS CONFIDENTIAL ABOUT WHITE JAZZ.
In the fall we brought you the news that Joe Carnahan would be directing an adaptation of White Jazz, James Ellroy’s sequel to LA Confidential. Later it was announced that George Clooney would be starring as dirty cop Dave Klein, sending interest in the film through the roof. Carnahan has said that he would like to see Guy Pearce return as Ed Exley, a character he played in Curtis Hanson’s film version LA Confidential who makes his return in Jazz. But does Pearce want to come back? He’s not too sure. I asked him about it today at the New York City press conference for his new movie, Factory Girl, where he plays Andy Warhol. "It’s been mentioned to me, but I haven’t read the script yet,” he said. “I ultimately don’t feel hugely compelled to revisit any character I’ve played before, really – but having said that it would depend on how it was realized, I guess.”

Word is that the script is great, and Exley has a pretty large role, so it would be great to have Pearce back. Somehow I imagine that with a look at the script – and a decent paycheck – Guy Pearce will be very happy to get back into the LAPD. (source: Devin Faraci at chud.com)

George not to attend Berlinale.
From an article at Agence France Presse via a News Database (Update: Thanks to Peanut Here's a direct link to the article) "Festival director Dieter Kosslick said US star George Clooney, a near perennial favourite at the Berlinale, has pleaded off this year though his "The Good German" is screening in competition. "

New Small Town Pastime; Spotting George Clooney. Residents of Statesville and Salisbury report seeing Hollywood superstar George Clooney in their small North Carolina towns. Clooney is scouting locations for "Leatherheads," the new romantic comedy he's producing and directing. Residents say he's been checking small local hotels and cafes for possible scenes in the movie set in the world of 1920s football. The two towns are about 40 miles north of Charlotte. In addition to producing, directing and starring in "Leatherheads" Clooney also shares a writing credit for the screenplay. His co-writer on the project includes Steven Soderberg who produced and directed "The Good German," Clooney's latest film. "Leatherheads" will also star Renee Zellweger and John Krasinski, currently starring in "The Office." (WSBTV)

White Jazz to start filming at the end of November. Film Journal has an article in which it states a new film date for White Jazz. "In November, he'll start production on White Jazz, a period thriller adapted from the James Ellroy novel and starring George Clooney." Joe Carnahan confirms this himself on his blog in yesterdays (1/28/07) entry . "I've got two movies in front of me that I expect to be radical departures from 'SA'. One is 'Bunny Lake Is Missing' which we will start shooting mid-March and the other is 'White Jazz' which will begin filming at the end of November. "

The NewsMarket
has reported a massive surge in public relations spending on online video content. The NewsMarket's headline clients -- such as Google, Pfizer and BMW -- increased their year-on-year PR spend on digital video distribution by 57 percent in 2006. Overall, The NewsMarket fulfilled 240,000 requests for video clips in 2006, a 100 percent annual increase on 2005 levels. Among the most requested clips were those from the World Cup, George Clooney's visit to Darfur in April 2006, the Detroit Auto Show and Google's acquisition of YouTube.

3 Towns To Share 'Leatherhead' Spotlight With Greer.
Greer is already taking top billing for its role in George Clooney's new movie "Leatherheads," but now WYFF News 4 has learned at least three other towns will share the spotlight. In addition to Greer, film crews will be in Anderson, Boiling Springs and Ware Shoals. The crew will be filming at the Calhoun Building on Main Street in Anderson. In Boiling Springs, Boiling Springs High School freshaman campus will be a film set, and at Ware Shoals High School, the stadium will be featured. (WYFF4)

Darfur.
Today's Extra did a segment on Darfur. Among those interviewed were George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Maria Bello. Nick Clooney was also interviewed today on MSNBC regarding the situation in Darfur. Those clips can be viewed here. Speaking of Darfur, thanks to Tammy, I should have “A Journey to Darfur” available on the site next week.

News 4 staffer spotted George Clooney in downtown Greenville Monday night.
He was out to dinner with Grant Heslov, one of the other producers of "Leatherheads". Clooney was approachable and easy to talk to. He was extremely polite to everyone who approached him. He asked fans not to take any pictures, and people seemed to respect his request. Clooney says he's enjoyed his stay in the Upstate so far, and is looking forward to shooting a movie here. Filming isn't set to begin until next month, but Clooney is expected to stay in the Upstate until then. (WYFF4)

Clair Fordham: A close encounter with George Clooney.
I had been invited to go as a friend's 'plus one' to a PEN (Poets, Editors and Novelists) event honouring George for writing the film Good Night, And Good Luck. At least 500 other people were there, but as far as I was concerned it still counted as having dinner with Gorgeous George. My chum was convinced she could get me introduced to George as she knew his co-writer, Grant Heslov. Her plan was for us both to go over and say hello to Grant, who would then introduce us to George. I tried to explain to Colin that George prefers his women half my age and at least four sizes smaller, but he was certain that George would fall for me. COLIN watched suspiciously as I slathered Veet hair removal cream over my legs in preparation for my date. 'You don't go to this trouble for me,' he grumbled. Not only did I buy a new dress (red, to stick out in the crowd), I lasted half a day on a ten-day master cleanse to get me in peak shape. I checked I had a notebook in my handbag, in case George said anything worth writing down when I met him (like his phone number) and sashayed into the banqueting hall. I searched the room as nonchalantly as I could. No sign of George. Blimey, writers are a scruffy bunch. The Oscars it was not. George wasn't anywhere to be seen. Grant Heslov was, though, and spent the evening apologising for not being George Clooney. Note to self: just because you're given an award doesn't mean you have to show up to collect it. I had been stood up. George was a no-show. One of the reasons I moved to America was that I had more chance of meeting George Clooney if I lived in the same country as him. It's taken me seven years in LA to get even close to having a date with George and, at this rate, I'll be 70 before it finally happens (Daily Mail)

An Oscar Nod. The Good German received a nomination for best original score. Unless he has other pressing commitments, expect to see George presenting at the Oscars.

Two more episodes of Sisters have been added. Eventually all of the episodes that George appeared in will be in our library but I'm going to wait awhile to add the rest. If you have George on DVD (US or foreign) and would like to trade shows with us, let me know.

'Leatherheads' Expected To Score Big Economically. GREER, S.C. -- Business leaders are hoping having a big Hollywood name in town will bring a big payoff to the upstate. George Clooney's film, "Leatherheads," is expected to bring an economic boost that will put Greer ahead of the game. Greer's downtown will be the backdrop for part of the Clooney film, in large part because its downtown looks a lot like the 1920s era the romantic comedy is set in. A lot of eyes will be on the tiny downtown as Hollywood's whose who's who stops in. That means extra visitors and hopefully extra money. Even though filming for Leatherheads won't start until the end of February or the beginning of the March. The Greer Chamber of Commerce said the movie has already made an impact. Clooney was in town last week scouting potential locations and people flocked to the area to get a glimpse of the star. The chamber's CEO said the Hollywood lure, and the 250 crew members, will definitely mean extra business during filming. John Kimbrell, with the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce, said, "They gotta eat. They gotta sleep. They do things in the community, so it's an opportunity for businesses to take a part in this and share in some of the commerce. They'll experience when their down here so it's a good economic impact."

From Sports Illustrated.
In 1992 SI senior writer Rick Reilly and former SI reporter Duncan Brantley sold a screenplay called Leatherheads, a romantic football comedy set in the '20s, just before the birth of the NFL. Mel Gibson and Michael Keaton showed interest but ultimately, says Reilly, "The script sat. It was a doorstop. And then a paperweight. I think it once held up a lopsided table." Now George Clooney has revived the project: He'll direct and play halfback Jimmy (Dodge) Connelly, a fictional character based on real-life '20s barnstormer Johnny (Blood) McNally. Says Reilly, "Blood came from a league where owners made you shower with your uniform on and then had you hang it out the window of the train on the way to your next game." The film starts production in February. "Now I just want to see it made," says Reilly. "And I wouldn't mind a small part."

George Clooney is in a league of his own.
Even dressed down in a Howard's Motors T-shirt and blue jeans, George Clooney looks like he just walked off the set of a '40s movie. At 45, the actor is one of the only modern performers who could conceivably stand shoulder-to-shoulder with icons like Cary Grant, Gary Cooper and Jimmy Stewart. Tell People's Sexiest Man Alive twice over that he reminds you of yet another Hollywood legend and before you can get the words out of your mouth, he says, "Kate Hepburn? I remind you of Kate Hepburn?" (continue reading)

George Clooney wants 'to aim a little higher' He may be People magazine’s reigning Sexiest Man Alive for the second time, but Clooney, an Oscar winner for his work in last year’s political thriller “Syriana,” has his eye on quality, not mass appeal. “We do them because we think we might be able to spend this time we have pushing to get films we think are interesting made. We want to aim a little higher than the low bar,” Clooney said recently. (continue reading)

George Clooney surveys Greer for movie. There was excitement in the streets as Hollywood star George Clooney made his way through downtown Greer. "We were all standing outside and he said hello to everybody. Several women grabbed him and hugged him and I went to take a picture of him on my phone," said Harold Baker, an excited business owner. Several photos were taken during his visit. Locals say he stopped into several stores to scout out scenes for is romantic comedy 'Leatherheads.' "He's going to be doing some of it here. He's talking about taking part of our store and re-dressing it into vintage wear and giving it a 1920's look," said one retailer. A men's clothing store has been in Bernard's family since 1916. Though the shop is historic he hopes the attention of George Clooney will make it famous. "Women about drove us crazy, wanting to know when he's coming and what time he'll be here," said Bernard. "We had a lead he was at the top of the street and there he was," exclaimed one fan. When FOX Carolina asked some of the fans in town what they though of meeting George Clooney, they responded by saying, "he looks better in person." (Fox Carolina) Video clip here.

Update: Thanks to Bob B. who shared that George was spotted in Winston-Salem NC:
George enjoyed a rather rare steak at the W-S Prime restaurant in the Marriott Hotel in downtown Winston-Salem, NC last night (Jan 18), where he was quite gracious to every one of the numerous local admirers who accosted him in the hotel bar, lobby, and restaurant. George Clooney is a class act. I responded to Bob that I'd had the opportunity to watch George interact with people and felt that he was a sincerely decent man which is why I do the website (in case you always wondered :-) He wrote the following back. A "sincerely decent man" is exactly what I saw. I am much more of a fan now than I was before.

Blue Ridge man is a Leatherhead. Jason Head didn't feel lucky when he joined the hundreds of men attempting to gain a spot as an extra in the George Clooney movie, "Leatherheads." He never expected to get a call back. But Head was one of 200 chosen to attend an audition at Furman University's football stadium for a part as a football player. Organizers cut the number to about 60 Saturday, and finished the auditions this morning. Head, 26, was shocked to be among the 20 or so selected to appear in the movie. He couldn't contain his excitement, even though he has no idea of what he'll be doing, where he'll be doing it, how long he'll have to do it or even what he'll get paid for doing it. "I heard it's $225 a day; that's good money even though it is a little less than what I make," said Head who lives in Blue Ridge and owns Dent Free, a mobile paintless dent repair company. "I'm not sure if that's true because there were so many rumors out there," he said. "They haven't told us yet." The tryout Saturday didn't seem that hard. "They would give a guy a ball, tell him to run, then have someone tackle him without actually tackling him," he said. He didn't really feel it until he woke up this morning. "I felt like a statue," he said. "But they had a trainer stretch us and it worked out." (Greenville Online)

Romance blossomed at the Alms. This will wrap up your recollections of the Alms and other long-gone Cincinnati hotels. Neal Slageter remembers a simpler time, June 28th, 1947, when he and Rita were married. "We had our reception at the Kemper Lane Hotel a few blocks from the Alms. We made reservations at the Alms and walked there for our first night of married life." Continue reading Nick Clooney's Monday column here. For your convenience, his columns will also be archived on Clooney Network.

Local 6th-grader wins film role. A star is born! -- or at least possibly has been launched. On a lark, young Nick Bourdages of DeKalb decided to come downtown in early December after he learned about an audition for a new George Clooney movie -- thanks to an item in this column. Well, lo and behold, the 11-year-old sixth-grader at St. Mary School has beaten out some 500 kids at the Chicago auditions, plus an unknown number who tried out in Philadelphia and Los Angeles, to win the key role of Bug, the waterboy in "Leatherheads." Clooney gives personal report.
Nick Clooney told Lexington Catholic High School students a story about a woman he encountered during his visit to the Darfur region of Sudan. The woman spoke of running from government-backed militia with a baby in her arms. Another son ran ahead while her 6-year-old trailed behind. He couldn't keep up and eventually, after screaming for his mother to slow down, his voice got quieter and quieter, Clooney said. When the mother went back to look for her son, she found only part of his body. (continue reading)

Tryouts for 'Leatherheads' continue at Furman. Tryouts to be an extra in George Clooney's movie, "Leatherheads," are scheduled to continue today at Furman University's Paladin Stadium. Upstaters were buzzed at Greenville's Tommy's Ham House. "I think it's a good thing," said Billy Cook, 73, of Greenville. "It brings in excitement." The movie also starts a second Oscar winning actor, Renee Zellweger, who has yet to be spotted in Greenville. The movie takes place in the 1920's and is expected to be shot in Greer. Jennifer Cunningham said she had gotten into the talk about the movie. "I was wondering if there would be any African-American actors," she said. Chip Conklin, 38, of Columbia who played football at Newberry College, was trying out to be an extra for the film. He said he doubted that there were black football players in 1920s. But there were two or three black men who were trying out for the film, which is expected to be shot in the Upstate this spring. Greenville Online (with thanks to Clooney Project)

Leatherheads Extra Tryouts.
Most of the 200 men on the field were on the thin side. Chip Conklin of Conklin, age 38 and weghing 305 lbs., said he didn't know if he'd be picked. The father of three who does security work said he'd been in five movies. He said the 50 extras who'd be playing football would be paid $125 on days they just played football, $250 on "days when there was hitting." He said he was determined to play if he was picked. Since The Good German plays homage to Casablanca, I thought you might enjoy watching George in this clip from the series Sisters which did a take off of the film as well. By the way, several more full episodes of Sisters have been added here.

How cool is this? Clooney Project was mentioned on yesterday's Daily 10 and today's weekend version of the same show which airs on E! Yep, I'm a little jealous and it's too bad because we used to be friends. Only Kidding ;-) Nope, my excitement for her outweighs that little pang of jealousy. :-) Way to go, Kimber! Video Clips.
I'm now adding all of the episodes of Sisters that George appeared in. I started yesterday but caught a mistake I didn't have time to fix. I have fixed that error and will be uploading three episodes today (in order of his appearance.) These are full shows, not just the clips with George in them. The files are large and if you aren't using highspeed Internet, you shouldn't attempt to download them. :-( They are available here. Please let me know if there are problems with any of the clips.

Video:
This week's episoide of TVGC Hollywood on the Set includes a segment on The Good German. The material included is the same as the interview clips I've had on the site for weeks but it's still worth watching. You can download the show here.

The Good German is going wider today.
Hopefully it is now playing in your area. Once you see it, sign onto our message board and share your opinion. Also, let people know where it is playing in your area. I'm in Utah near Salt Lake and it's only in one theater here. I think in certain areas it may be hard for people to find. :-(

Clooney backstage at the Golden Globes.
The back entrance of the Beverly Hilton became even more interesting than the front for a while before the show began. George Clooney sneaked in and told me all about his meeting with Kofi Annan last month after Clooney, Don Cheadle and two Olympic athletes visited China and Egypt on behalf of Darfur. “We had an excellent meeting,” the star said, “and since then there seems to be an improvement in deliveries of food and supplies. I think we made a difference.” His eyes actually twinkled when he said it; Clooney is passionate about this cause. Did he bring the Olympians to China as a suggested threat of a boycott of the Beijing games unless China got with the program? His eyes twinkled again. “We just thought they’d help get the message across,” he said, and invited me to follow him backstage to keep talking. Of course, the Globes people would have none of that! So we will hear more from Clooney soon on this important matter. (Fox News) (Thanks to Peanut and Clooney Project)

I'm going out on a limb right now and bet that by tomorrow morning, at least 500 articles will describe George Clooney as looking "dapper." All right, that's one. Clooney announces the winner: Leo DiCaprio. Hardy har-har. The crowd laughs and basks in George's light.(Ropes of Silicon)

George Clooney walked on stage Monday night and started right out giving an award. No joke, no hello, nothing. Top of the show. George Clooney. What, no warm up? Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger gave the last award of the night. He came out on crutches and launched right into the award. No joke, no catchphrase, not even a reference to his leg. Just straight to the award. Who does he think he is, George Clooney? (kentucky.com)

SYRIANA awarded Belgian Film Critics' Award.
On Saturday Stefan Eraly, chairman of the the Union of Filmcritics, announced that the American movie "Syriana" (Stephen Gaghan) has been awarded the 53th Grand Prix. After 7 rounds of voting and some serious debating during the annual dinner in Brussels, Syriana came out as the winner, before "La tourneuse de pages" (Denis Dercourt), "Pan's Labyrinth" (Guillermo del Toro), "The squid and the whale" (Noah Baumbach) and "The wayward cloud" (Tsai Ming Liang). According to the Chairman, Syriana is a "critical fragmental film" about the oil-concerns in the Middle East, showing the "complexity of today's world's politics and economy in an intelligent and engaging manner". I've added George's 2000 version of Fail Safe to the video library. If you haven't seen this, it's a must watch. Personally, I think it's one of his best. You can download it here.
